Since last July, 34 Mapuche Indians in Chile held primarily for burning of agricultural goods, observed a hunger strike .
It was for these members of the main Chilean indigenous minority to protest against the heavier penalty because of their anti-terrorism laws dating from the Pinochet era.
They partly succeeded because President Pinera has passed a reform of anti-terrorism legislation reducing sentences and allowed to redesignate the sentences of 34 convicted offense Mapuche common law. 24 Mapuche last week stopped their hunger strike at the announcement of these measures, 10 others waited to see if they were extended to all the Mapuche convicted for the same reasons.
However, anti-terrorism laws were not repealed.
